Fall Hike to Shute Hill
October, 2020
Around here you can step out of the house and find a perfect spot to
hike nearby.
This afternoon Judy and I went up Shute Hill and hiked down an old
range road
and into a small field. I worked a dozen stations under a canopy of
fall gold.
We started out on the Rufus Colby Road and walked about a half mile
north to
where the town stops maintaining the road.
A little farther on, we make a right turn into the woods and in a
few minutes we're
in Will Ellis's field.
We walk past a stone wall and head toward the far edge of the field.
I toss my wire into a maple
tree and set up the KX3. Judy sits in the warm sun and knits a pair
of booties.
There are several contests under way: the PA QSO party, the Nevada
QSO party and the
SKCC weekend sprint. Making contacts is easy. I was surprised to
work Guadeloupe
before packing up.

After 40 minutes, I've had enough and and I pull down the
antenna.
What a glorious day! Most certainly we won't have many more like
this.
