ARCI Summer Homebrew Sprint
July 2020
This afternoon I headed into an abandoned field several miles from
home for the ARCI Homebrew Sprint.
I operated for about an hour and a half and made 14 contacts. I used
two rigs: The K1SWL DSWs on 20
and 40 meters. The afternoon was perfect.
I walked to the end of the field and around the corner where there
are two large oak trees. Here I hung
the Par End Fedz supported in the middle as an inverted vee. I
could use both 20 and 40 meters
without a tuner.
I started out on 20 meters. As soon as I turned on the rig, I heard
NJ2OM booming in. I was thrilled to get such a good start. I heard
a lot of activity in the SKCC weekend sprint, so I worked many of
those stations. The stations followed by a name in the log below are
in the SKCC sprint.

I started out around 4:30 and the sun was still pretty hot. It was
in the mid-80s
under the tree. But at least there were no mosquitoes.
The DSW rigs run about 2 watts and are perfect for outdoor radio.
I didn't hear many western stations or any DX. But all things
considered I did well with the little rigs,
and I had a fantastic time. I broke down the station around 6:00 pm.
Thanks to all for the QSOs and
the good time. 73 Jim W1PID
